Hello AU Family,
Holy Moly! It's June already! Where has the time gone? It's been a super busy month here at Adventures Underground with the first Record Store Day of 2021, as well as releases for the Pokemon and Magic: The Gathering TCGs. These events have been huge successes, and we can't thank you enough for the continued support and for keeping us up and running. The team and I appreciate each and every member of the AU family, including our customers and community,.
The month of June is all about diversity with AU because we celebrate each and every human. Pride Month is upon us, and we have a nice stock of Pride flags, comics, and graphic novels for all ages. We've even had some really great Pride comic covers come in, such as Batman 109 and the manga Boys Run the Riot.
Juneteenth is also on our list for the June holidays, and we'll be joining the celebration at Kurtzmann Park on the 19th! After three weeks of taking to the streets with picket signs to protest police brutality and racism, the members of Black Lives Matter: Tri-Cities is pairing up with the Tri-Cities Juneteenth committee for an art rally, and one of our Cafe members will be among the painters, dancers, rappers, and poets, passing out AU swag and goodies for us.
We also celebrate our fathers this month, with Father's Day coming up on June 20th! We know every family looks different, so we've brought in new picture books for children that reflect this diversity, with each one exploring a different kind of father-child relationship: titles like Hair Love by Matthew Cherry (in which a father learns an extra-special style for his daughter's hair), My Maddy by Gayle E. Pitman (a warm, heartfelt exploration of nonbinary parenthood), Owl Moon by Jane Yolen (which describes nighttime, father-daughter "owling" adventure), and more.
Upcoming events to keep an eye out for include Record Store Day Drop #2 on July 17th -we will be open at 11 am and the line-up will be on the AU side (George Washington Way) - and Free Comic Book Day on August 17th! Keep an eye out on social media and our website with times and locations. Again, thank you so much for all your love and support.
Sincerely,
Garry Scholes
