Romance is in the air!
Happy August, AU Fluffle!
It's been one hot summer, and our AU-gust is only heating up from here! First up, we've got Bookstore Romance Day rapidly approaching on Saturday, August 20th. It's a pretty new holiday to the book world - its first year was in 2019! - but because it's a branch-off from Indie Bookstore Day, we wanted to give Bookstore Romance Day a little extra love. Not only will we be offering 10% off all Romance books (new AND used), but we'll be hosting a local author, C. Rae D'Arc, to show off and sign copies from her completed book trilogy: Haunted Romance. Come in from 4-6pm on August 20th to chat with her and get your books signed! (don't forget: it's never just a power outage...)
The week after that doesn't cool off, either! On Wednesday, August 24th, Planned Parenthood will join us for a presentation and an ARTivism activity around bodily rights and autonomy called "Bans Off Our Bodies.” Anyone who wants to learn more is welcome to join us in the Caterpillar Cafe at 6pm.
On Saturday, August 27th, we'll have local author Maxwell J Hurley in from 2-4pm to celebrate the latest volume in his young adult series, LiT, Volume #4: Begrimed Harrigan. (when it rains, it pours...)
Right after that, on Sunday, August 28th, we're hosting Patricia Briggs for her newest title from Alpha and Omega, Volume #13: Soul Taken. We're especially excited to have Patty joining us - it'll be one of her first in-person book signings in years! We’ll have her books on sale during the signing, so don’t worry if you forget your copy - but if you want to secure one ahead of time (or if you won't be able to attend the event and still want Patty to sign your book!), we're happy to help set up your order in-store, over the phone, or by email at books@advunderground.com.
… wait, wait! I’m not done! I only said August, but there’s more! Magic the Gathering has a new set coming out in early September: Dominaria United! We're hosting a Pre-Release Tournament for the set on Sunday, Sept 4th at 1pm. Registration is $35.00 after tax. We’ll have 16 spots for a sealed deck, four-round tournament that we'll run in Swiss pairings. Give us a call or stop in to reserve your spot!
Last but not least, we have tons of regularly scheduled events in the Caterpillar Café:
- EVERY Monday, Magic the Gathering Casual Play (4pm)
- SECOND Tuesday of each month, Tricities Area Gaming Intro to GMing (6pm)
- Every OTHER Thursday, Casual Pokemon TCG Play (4:30pm) (the first and third week of each month),
- Every OTHER Thursday, Tricities Area Gaming Board Game Nights (5pm) (the second and fourth Thursday of each month),
- SECOND Saturday of each month, the Caterpillar Café and Adventures Underground hosts local artists’ booths for the Uptown Art Walk. The next one comes up on September 10th, and they run through December!
